Pronunciation: [tehm-POOR-uh; TEHM-poor-uh]
A Japanese specialty of batter-dipped, deep-fried pieces of fish or vegetables. Tempura, which is usually accompanied by soy sauce, can be served as an hors d'oeuvre, first course or entrée.
