An amber-colored, sweetened Greek brandy based on red grapes and flavored with herbs and spices. Metaxas have a winelike flavor reminiscent of muscat grapes. The Seven-Star Amphora Metaxa has a caramelized, nutty flavor, and the finest rendition—Metaxa Grande Fine—is full and rich and resembles sherry.
