julep

A sweet drink made with any of various liquors, water (still or sparkling), sugar and, sometimes, mint (as with mint julep). The origin of the word julep is the Persian word julâb, which means "rosewater." In 15th-century England, the word "julep" was used to describe a sugar syrup variously flavored and often mixed with medication.
